EVENT RECAP: The Brunch Club - Buy Less, Give More [ Xmas Edition ]
Earlier this month was the 6th and last 2019 Edition of The Brunch Club; Buy Less, Give More.
We spent a perfect morning in the funky B.50 event space in Lausanne…
STARTING WITH THE CREDITS
As always, the event simply would not have been possible without the support of all the collaborators, sponsors and helping hands.
A big thank you to our panelists Victoria & Ada, to Lara’s Brunch for the delicious brunch buffet, to Amfora Home & Northern Lights Festival for the workshop, to Ana for the pictures, to B.50 for the space, to SIRADIS, Farmy.ch, Alver, Minimal Organics and The Goodlife Coffee for providing goodies to bring home, and every single one of you for coming! All profits from the event were donated to My Climate.
Now onto the event recap…

THEN WAS THE DISCUSSION
This Brunch Club revolved around the topic of overconsumption around the holiday season. In order to get a deeper insight, we invited Behavioural & Consumer Psychologist Ada Cirlia and Co-Founder of EcoLABO (sustainable e-shop) Victoria Etchepareborda. As usual, within minutes, the discussion moved from between the host & panel, to within the audience. When certain guests would ask questions, other attendees would hop in and answer - as the flow of learning should.
In case you missed the discussion, here were some of the key learnings reported by our attendees:
Everything is a process. You don’t have to go waste-free in a day, simply take little, conscious steps daily
“Don’t let your liberation become your prison” - living a more minimal lifestyle can be a type of freedom, but worrying about doing it perfectly can make it the opposite
The first step to living more waste-free is to reuse what you currently have. Do not throw everything away and buy new “sustainable” items - start with what you already own.
Each and every one of us is different. Define what living more sustainably and minimally means to you
Do you research: not all sustainable initiatives are what they seem to be. Find a resource you trust (example: B-Corp. Certification) and take a few minutes to look into a company before you purchase from them.
Money is power and energy. You vote with your dollar every day. When you purchase from someone, you’re supporting their initiatives, and giving them the resources to keep doing what they’re doing. You’re investing in them. Are you proud of who you’re investing in?
WE MOVED ON TO OUR WORKSHOP…
Our workshop was hosted by The Northern Lights Festival and Amfora Home. The woman behind The Northern Lights Festival (Camille from @facesofthefrontier) introduced us to Eurof - the founder of Amfora Home. His passion for his product was palpable - it filled the room. He explained the disturbing truth behind conventional grocery store olive oil, and how at Amfora they do it differently. They work with the local people, paying them fair wages, supporting their families, only producing olive oil of optimal quality, even if that means producing less. They offer a waste-free product, where they come to your house to fill your jars. Amazing.
We finally put everything we talked about to the test. We grabbed reusable glass jars, filled them up with sustainably & ethically sourced olive oil, filled them with equally sustainably-sourced herbs, and prepared handmade Christmas presents. These infused olive oil jars allowed us to give a useful gift, made with love, where our time and energy went into supporting a positively intentioned company, leading a positive movement.
WE ENDED BRUNCHING… HARD
After all the moving, talking, infusing… we were ready as ever to dig into a big brunch.
Brunch was catered by the wonderful Lara from Lara’s Brunch.
Missed the spread? Here’s a few drool worthy shots…
We left with our hearts and bellies nice and full… but it wasn’t quite done yet! Before leaving every participant was invited to pick a prize out of a stocking. Prizes were contributed by our sponsors: The Goodlife Coffee, SIRADIS, Farmy.ch, Minimal Organics, Alver Chlorella and Lara’s Brunch.
